‘Matt Makin-some ground up on the VGT Order of Merit on a blustery day at Furry Creek’

The MarketPlace IGA Vancouver Golf Tour contested its 3rd of six Spring Series Events at Furry Creek on Monday which was presented by Personal Injury Lawyer Brad Garside of Paine Edmonds LLP. Shooting a very impressive round of 66 on a wind-swept Furry Creek layout, Matt Makinson of Coquitlam won $650 and crept his way up the Vancouver Golf Tour Order of Merit into solo third place, only $20 behind Matt Palsenbarg of Northview Golf Club and $130 shy of McCleery Golf Course Teaching Pro Phil Jonas. At the half-way point of the VGT Spring Series, Jonas leads the VGT Order of Merit with a total of $1,170. At the end of the Spring Series, the VGT Order of Merit Winner will take home a cash bonus of $500 and the year-ending Order of Merit Winner will get a paid entry down to PGA Tour Qualifying School. Low amateur honors were shared by Dennis Fullerton of North Vancouver and Joel Geschke of Maple Ridge, both carding rounds of 77 and taking home gift certificates from Perfect Lies.

Great Shots!
Special mention should go out to two VGT players: Junior contestant Stefano Sidonio of West Vancouver who ACED #2 and Professional Mark Burke from Musqueam Golf Academy who ACED #16! Awesome guys!

The next MarketPlace IGA Vancouver Golf Tour event gets underway on Monday, April 30th at Ledgeview Golf Course in Abbotsford, host of last year’s BC Assistant’s Championship. This event will feature Championship Amateur, Junior and Professional Divisions as well as the addition of a Corporate Team Challenge component where Professionals play with three amateurs to win some great team prizes. This event will serve as the first of five Corporate Pro-am Events in which a Corporate Pro-am Team will be crowned Champion and win bragging rights for the year as well as winning some fantastic prizes. Professionals who bring their own team of amateurs can also capitalize on some bonus team money if their team finishes near the top.

Registration forms can be found on the website and the deadline for entry to the April 30th event is Wednesday, April 25th. Sign-up early as there is limited space for all categories in this tournament.
