We
couldn’t have asked for a better day out at King’s Links by the
Sea Golf Club in Boundary Bay this Thursday. A fantastic venue
for any golf tournament, King’s Links proved to be all the golf
course it is advertised as: True Scottish Golf by the seaside.
The only thing missing on the day was the fierce winds….and
rain. And with the warm, sunny skies and only a drop of wind,
this led to some great scoring from our VGT Professionals. In
fact, out of the 26 professionals playing, 11 broke par on this
usually very demanding par 72 links course.
Leading
the field with an impressive score of -8 (64) was Fraserview
Golf Course Professional Dan Swanson. Swanson's round
included a pair of eagles on the front nine for a 6 under par 30
and a total of 5 more birdies on the day for his 64. Swanson was
rewarded both for his fine individual play, winning $1,800 as
well as being the Professional on the winning Pro-am team and
picking up another $250.
Second
on the day was Seymour Creek Professional Fraser Mulholland,
shooting a solid score of 67 (-5). Mulholland picked up $1,200
for his 2nd place showing and both Andrew Smeeth and Phil Jonas
took home $900 each for placing tied third with scores of 68.
In the
team event, this year's Pro-am Team Champions consisted of
Professional Dan Swanson, Ron Westlake, Ashley Garib, Ed
Anderson and Junior Sam MacDonald. Their 2-best net total over
18 holes was an impressive 30-under par, which left them 3 shots
clear of second place finishers Dave Bolton, Holly Pearson, Gary
Brassart, Neil Johnson and Junior Spencer Lightburn.

There
are many people to thank in order for an event of this size to
be run. The list is long and because of that, we have detailed
all of our supporters in our
Tournament Summary. Please take the time to read over our
list of supporters who we are very proud of having onboard -
Sponsors, suppliers, volunteers and support staff. The last but
certainly not least is to all the golf courses who have come on
board this year and supported us by helping us get great golf
courses, conditions and tee-times for all our players-
professional, corporate and juniors to play fantastic tournament
conditions.
I
do want to personally take the time to thank one person in
particular - Mr. John MacNichol of MarketPlace IGA
for taking a chance and signing on as the Title Sponsor of the
Vancouver Golf Tour. I can't thank-you enough for your generous
support throughout the year. Through your support and
sponsorship, you have enabled us to put the Vancouver Golf Tour
on the map big time! We now have a Nationwide captive audience
watching what we are doing right here in the Lower Mainland with
golf development. You can be very proud that you are the primary
reason we are giving our fine young players a place to play and
making their way down to PGA Tour school to fulfill their
dreams. You are the reason why we are well on our way to
fulfilling our quest of 'Preparing Tomorrow's Champions'! My
sincerest thanks go out to you and the Louie family for making
my vision a reality.
With
one final VGT event remaining on the schedule (Vancouver
Open - Sept.15,16th @ University Golf Club), Phil Jonas has
maintained his lead in the Order of Merit Standings with total
earnings of $9,030, some $2,500 over Smeeth and $3,300 over
Swanson. All eyes will be watching at the Vancouver Open as the
Vancouver Golf Tour will pay the Order of Merit Winner’s entry
($5,000) to the 2007 PGA Tour Qualifying School this fall!
Spectators are welcome so don’t miss out on an opportunity to
see some fantastic golf! For more information
