Dear friends,

The 2007 MarketPlace IGA Vancouver Golf Tour season was launched today with the Opening Spring Series Event presented by Chilliwack Times. The Inaugural VGT event was hosted at Sandpiper Golf Club in Harrison Mills where the weather didn’t look one bit like spring was around the corner! What seemed to be quite a promising day Sunday turned into one of the biggest deluges on a golf course on Monday. This change in climate however, did not prevent all 47 registered VGT golfers from attending this Inaugural event. With that said, after 18 holes of cold, wet and windy conditions, VGT has an early Order of Merit Leader in Professional Matt Palsenbarg (pictured receiving his cheque) of Northview Golf Club. Matt’s amazing score of 66 in these conditions was capped off with a bogey free round which highlighted six birdies on the card! The only other VGT Professional to better par in these torrential conditions was Veteran Phil Jonas of both McCleery and Hazelmere Golf Club, shooting 2-under par 70.

VGT’s Opening event boasted a total of twelve past or present Canadian Tour Members as well as one past LPGA Tour Professional Jennifer Greggain who now competes on the Future’s Tour. Our low amateur score of the day went to West Vancouver’s Stefano Sidonio.
