$10,000 Pro Purse
2008 HADASSAH WIZO PRO-AM Tournament
Review:
‘SWANSON AND GERMAN RED-HOT AT THE HADASSAH-WIZO
PRO-AM’
With one of the best Professional fields in the
tournament’s 26 year history, it was no surprise
to see the amount of low numbers posted in VGT’s
ninth Official Order of Merit event. At the end
of the day, it was the remarkable play of
Guilford GC’s Dan Swanson
and Point Roberts GC’s Kyle
German that resulted in a two-way tie
at the top. Both professionals
carded 65 (-7) on the day and
pocketed $1,575 each for their
t1st honors. Close behind in 3rd with
another fine round of 66 was Doug Morgan of The
Redwoods.
Featuring
one of the biggest one-day
Pro-am purses ($10,000) now in BC,
the Hadassah Wizo Pro-am has become one of the
most Premier Professional tournaments in BC. Not
only is the tournament contested on one of BC’s
finest conditioned tournament courses (Richmond
Country Club), the event is co-ordinated with
first class. From the time a player drives into
the parking lot to the end of the dinner
presentation, the Hadassah Wizo committee puts
on one of the smoothly co-ordinated events in
Canada.
For 26 straight years, the
tournament has raised funds for the
Hadassah Hospital Tower in
Jerusalem and the Prostate Centre at Vancouver
General Hospital. In the event’s
history, the Hadassah Wizo tournament has
proudly raised over $1.5 million towards these
most worthy charities. I would like to take this
time to extend my thanks to the countless number
of volunteers on the Vancouver Hadassah Wizo
Committee and to commend them all for their
continued success with this tournament – the
longest standing Pro-am in the city. The
tournament could not be such a success without
the continued support of the many sponsors who
are listed below:
Thank-you also goes out to VGT’s
contributing sponsors of the event:
MarketPlace IGA, Haywood
Securities, Active Orthopaedic and Club Car.
This was the first year VGT was
affiliated with the Hadassah Wizo Pro-am, and I
can’t say enough of how proud we are to be a
part of this outstanding event. VGT’s Live
Scoring was brought to the event for the first
time, giving players a chance to see the
Professional Leaderboard move while on the
course while at the same time recognize the
sponsors of the event. Thanks go out to the VGT
volunteers (Heidi, Bryan, Bill, and George) who
keep making this happen from event-to-event!
This year’s tournament was
hosted by the ever-popular
Global TV sports broadcaster;
Jay Janower who did a
remarkable job of MC– even if it was at the
expense of the Commish a few times!!! Now if we
could only do something about that short game
double J!! Thanks for playing a part in this
year’s event – you’re first class!
It has been a pleasure working
with all of the Hadassah Wizo Committee members
(Bev, Connie, Fay and many others) this year and
I can’t wait to be a part of the 2009 Pro-am to
see if we can make it an even bigger success!
2008 VGT ORDER
OF MERIT UPDATE:
Nationwide Tour player Bryn Parry’s t6th place
cheque of $500 keeps him on top of the VGT Order
of Merit, but Swanson’s win and $1,575 cuts into
what was a sizeable lead of about $1,500 and
cuts it down to just over $300 between them with
Parry’s year-to-date earnings at $6,411.67 and
Swanson at $6,108.33. Andrew Smeeth sits in 3rd
Place with $3,796 and Canadian Tour rookie
Jeremy Paradis sits in 4th place with $2,800
after only playing in 4 events.
