On a bogey - free day,
Professional Shingo Akizuki of Mayfair
Lakes Golf Club captured his first VGT Title
with a fantastic score of 65 (-7) at the
beautiful Sandpiper Golf Resort. With 7 birdies
on the day, including one at the 18th hole,
Akizuki edged out Seymour Creek’s Ryan Williams
by a single stroke, earning him $925 for his
first place showing and vaulting him up into 4th
place on the VGT Order of Merit with $1,100
after 3 events.
After a full season out on the Canadian Tour in
2007, Akizuki has made his plans this year to
develop his skills locally while teaching at the
Mayfair Lakes Golf Club in Richmond. He will
plan to play a majority, if not all of the VGT
events in 2008, ultimately shooting for the
year-end player of the year honors which comes
with a sweet prize – A paid entry down to PGA
Tour Qualifying School (Approx. $5,000 in
value).
VGT’s Professional Order of Merit Leader at the
conclusion of the Sandpiper event is Seymour
Creek Golf Center’s Kendal Yonemoto with a total
of $1,875. Yonemoto is just over $500 clear of
his nearest chaser – John Shin who is playing
his first full season on VGT and who also holds
conditional status on the Canadian Tour for
2008. Nationwide Tour Member Bryn Parry is
currently sitting in 5th place on the 2008 Order
of Merit after 3 events.
In the amateur side of the tournament, Ted Cho
of the Redwoods Golf Course and Mike Son of
Mayfair Lakes Golf Club shared low Amateur
honors, shooting very respectable scores of 71
(-1). Alone in 3rd place was Vancouver Golf
Club’s Zach MacDougall with a score of 73. In
the 6-10 handicap flight, Mission’s Rod Kirkland
took honors with a score of 76, edging out
Westwood Plateau’s Andre Maille by one shot and
winning himself $200 worth of Perfect Lies Gift
Certificates. Our amateur winners each took home
Perfect Lies Gift Certificates or prizes for
their fine play.
