VGT Tournament Review
28th Annual Hadassah WIZO Charity Pro-am
Richmond Country Club, Monday, July 12th
$10,000 Pro Purse
Firing an impressive round of 66 in blustery British Open-like conditions, Hazelmere Professional Phil Jonas wiped out the field of 27 VGT Professionals by en route to his 2nd Hadassah Pro-am in as many years and his 2nd win of the 2010 VGT season. Jonas ousted Cleveland/Srixon Order of Merit Leader Bryn Parry by 4 shots and claimed a $2,000 winner’s cheque and 1,500 points towards the 2010 Order of Merit Race. Parry’s second place score of 70 earned him $1,400 and 1,100 points, keeping his lead in the Cleveland/Srixon Order of Merit with 9,833 points, some 2,000 points ahead of 2nd place Jonas.

Hazelmere Professional Phil Jonas
The 48-year old Champion (Phil Jonas) has been very busy this year, teaching some of BC’s finest juniors and amateurs and local Pros at the
Phil
Jonas
Academy (www.jonasgolf.com) at Hazelmere as well as travelling to
China to teach one of their top Professionals Su Dong. Of most recent note, you all might have seen Jonas doing his newest ‘stick’ as a golf commentator at this year’s Skins Game at Bear Mountain a couple of weeks ago. Needless to say, Monday’s round showed us all that Jonas is indeed keeping his game in ready form for what would appear to be an automatic trip down to the Champions Tour Qualifying School in the fall of 2011 where if he was successful he would join the likes of Champions Tour regulars Freddy Couples, Fred Funk and a cast of other past PGA Tour winners.
In the Amateur Team competition this year, the sponsored team from PARKNFLY consisting of M. Somani, S. Cunningham, S. Jackman and J.O’Brien claimed victory with 133 stableford points and will be packing their bags to Kamloops on a Luxury Golf-Getaway to stay at the Delta Sun Peaks Resort and play Tobiano and Sun Peaks Golf Clubs. Congratulations to all amateurs on the team and to Professional Matt Makinson for captaining the squad to victory. Makinson took home a $250 bonus for his part in the team victory! Runner-up honours went to the Host Professional Derek Thornley’s squad of M. Zlotnik, P. Levinson, A. Zlotnik and I. Vinegar with 129 stableford points, each winning an HP Mini 210 Notebook PC with case. Thornley collected $200 for doing his part in their great play!
