ABOUT VANCOUVER GOLF TOUR

VGT was developed back in 2006 for Vancouver’s local Professionals and Amateurs (Handicap of 0-18) – giving them the opportunity for a high level of competition in a PGA Tour environment without spending excess travel dollars. The goal was to provide local players the opportunity to learn how to win while at the same time building their confidence to play on Worldwide Major Tours.

The mission statement of VGT has always been to 'Prepare Tomorrow’s Champions' locally and to send a minimum of one Professional down to compete in the PGA Tour Qualifying School every year. We had three VGT players qualify into 2nd stage of PGA Tour Q-School in the fall of 2009!

Fraser Mulholland, President VGT"The Vancouver Golf Tour will be the first developmental tour of its kind in Canada” states Mulholland. "We have created a locally based tour for our young and aspiring professionals, amateurs and juniors to compete against each other for seriously needed competition in a 'PGA Tour' run environment. We are currently developing a professional cash and prize structure that will give our young professionals an opportunity to make a living while they are preparing to compete on either the PGA Tour or one of the top tours around the world".

Since 2006, VGT has sent its top ranked player each year to compete in the PGA Tour Q-School. Our future plans are to send multiple players down to PGA Tour School and see a growing surge of VGT players graduating to the PGA Tour. Since our inception, VGT has been working alongside the Canadian Tour to secure positions into local Canadian Tour events for our top VGT members.

In 2007, 2008 and 2009, our Spring Order of Merit leaders were granted an exemption into the City of Surrey Invitational (Canadian Tour event). In 2009, VGT’s Bryn Parry finished t6th place in this event and won the 2009 VGT Order of Merit to earn the paid trip down to PGA Qualifying School this year.

"Our tour is giving our young rising stars (juniors and amateurs) a chance to compete head-to-head against the best professionals in our province on a regular basis. “We are giving Canada’s young stars an opportunity to see how some of our best professionals play the game earlier than ever before" says VGT Commissioner Fraser Mulholland.

"I want Canada’s youth to have the opportunity learn how to win against the best professionals in our country so that by the time they are 17 or 18, they are ready to win on the PGA Tour! This is the biggest reason Tiger Woods is where he is today".

VGT has been actively giving back to the local community in various endeavors that include providing free golf clinics and instruction for less privileged kids and donating its Live Scoring services to two Charity Golf Events that combined have raised over $100,000 for the Alzheimer’s Society, the Prostate Center at VGH and the Hadassah Hospital Tower in Jerusalem. VGT has also risen over $8,000 directly for two separate charities – KIDS UP FRONT (2007, 2008) and the CKNW ORPHAN’S FUND (2009). VGT continues to develop golf at the grass roots level with the initiation of its Junior Academy in 2007, which continues to grow each year.

"VGT’s Professionals are not only some of the best role models to our younger generation of golfers for the golf skill sets they possess, but also as ambassadors of the game and teachers of life long skills" states Mulholland.

Vancouver Golf Tour has grown rapidly in its four year history, registering over 1,000 different golfers in 2009. The tour is recognized as Western Canada’s Premier Developmental Golf Tour and has gained a lot of respect from local and regional media personalities. With the media’s support, VGT has rapidly become a driving force in the Canadian Golf Scene.
