Parry making his name known on
the Nationwide Tour!
April 29th, 2007
This
weekend proved to be bittersweet for Vancouver Golf Tour 'graduate' and
Seymour Creek Golf Professional Bryn Parry. With a fantastic Saturday
round of 65, Parry worked his way up the leader board and went into
Sunday's round with a share of the lead in the Nationwide Tour's Henrico
County Open at 12 under par. Looking as confident as he has been the
past year locally, Parry opened up the front nine with five birdies and
a score of -4 to get to -16 on the day and opened up at one point a four
shot lead on the field.
With the tension mounting on all the back
nine, Parry bogeyed the 10th and with the wind gusting on his 9-iron
shot on the par 3 11th, Parry's shot narrowly found the water guarding
the front pin which turned into a double bogey 5.
Parry bounced back from these two holes
and played very confidently coming down the stretch, making clutch par
putts on #16,17 and 18 to gain himself a spot in a four way playoff with
fellow BC professional Chris Baryla, former U.S. Amateur Champion Nick
Flanigan and Roland Thatcher.
Going back down 18 for the playoff, Parry
leaked his drive right and was forced to layup his second and count on a
close third shot to stay in the playoff as the other three had
successfully reached the par 5 in two shots. With the pin guarded
tightly up on top of the back left tier of the green, Parry's ball
skipped up to the top but spun back down the hill to 40 feet. With a
difficult putt ahead of him, Parry's putt slipped by the hole and he was
thus eliminated from the playoff as Baryla, Flanigan and Thatcher all
made their birdies. Flanigan eventually won the playoff on the fourth
playoff hole. Parry's T2nd finish made him a very tidy sum of $33,600,
the biggest payday of his Rookie season on the Nationwide Tour - and of
his career!
What this does for Parry is vault him up
the Nationwide Tour money list from 145th up to 30th overall after 8
events. More than that, Parry can feel a renewed sense of confidence
that with his finish this weekend, he totally belongs up at the top.
Parry's finish gets him one step closer to reaching the winners circle
and a giant leap to where all Nationwide Tour players are working to be
at the end of the season - Top 25 and gaining a spot on the PGA Tour!
No doubt the whole of Canada will be
keeping their eyes peeled a bit closer to the Golf Channel coverage and
scanning the Nationwide results sheet looking for Bryn Parry's name at
the top of the leader board.

“2007 PGA TOUR QUALIFYING
SCHOOL
and BRYN PARRY'S FINAL ROUND”
December
4th, 2006
Hello Vancouver, what a wonderful ride watching what I witnessed the
past three days down here in PGA West at the PGA Tour Qualifying School
where I have been following fellow teaching professional Bryn Parry
chase his dreams of qualifying for the PGA Tour. What a ride of emotions
for all those locals both at home and those following Bryn from behind
the ropes.
At
the start of today, Bryn held position at t29th and right on the bubble
to make his card for the tour. After 8 holes and many great shots into
some very difficult pin positions, Bryn held his score at even par for
the day as he made his way into the ninth hole with some very
characteristic shots that the fans had witnessed over the course of the
first few days at the tournament. Bryn’s next hole was probably his most
uncharacteristic of the tournament where his drive wavered 30 yards off
course and found the water, leaving him with a drop that made him lay-up
on his third and then hit into the green on his fourth. A great shot
into the green to five feet meant a shot for a great bogey save, but
another putt slipped by the edge and a double-bogey on the card.
However, like the champion golfer he is, Bryn came right back with two
fantastic golf shots on hole 10 and he
birdied
the hole, putting him back to 7 under par. With numerous great shots
being hit into some very difficult flags on the back nine, but a putter
that just kept edging out, Bryn came to the 15th hole needing to make
some birdies. At the time, the cut looked like it was going to be -9, so
with a perfect drive again and what looked like a perfect 7-iron shot to
the green, Bryn found himself bunkered after a less than favorable
bounce. After a near perfect bunker shot, another putt slipped by the
edge of the hole meaning he was back to -6 and he now had a tough task
ahead: birdying the last three holes to get his card.
A slightly hooked drive off the tee and a nice lay-up out of the fairway
bunker on this par 5 left Bryn with a tricky 7-iron shot to this tucked
pin at the back of the green. A good shot, avoiding the treacherous
bunker left of the green left Bryn with a 30 foot downhill putt that he
stepped up and drained with confidence! The crowd that swelled during
the day simply roared! Finally Bryn had made his mark on the greens.
Off to the dangerous 17th island
green
– Alcatraz as they call it. A seven iron shot that drew nicely from the
middle of the green came to rest about 15 feet from the cup. After
playing partner Mario Tiziani holed his 30 footer on the same line, Bryn
stepped up and drained his birdie to move back to 8 under par. The crowd
again roared, but this time even louder!
Now on 18 with the anticipation mounting, Bryn stepped up to his
tee-shot and confidently hit his drive down the right side of the
fairway into the light rough and onto a small bank, ball above his feet.
Not a bad drive considering the option going left – water hazard and
re-teeing the ball.
With the pin tucked right, Bryn took dead aim and fired right at the
flag, but pushed his shot just ever so slightly right of the green and
now left himself a dangerous pitch off a downhill lie from some thick
rough. With the thought on his mind being ‘I need this to make my card’,
Bryn took aim and chipped his ball right at the flag, just narrowly
missing the pin but now faced a 30 footer to save his par. A bold stroke
put Parry’s ball just past the hole, but narrowly missing nonetheless.
This bogey on the final hole of qualifying school left Bryn at -7 for
the tournament and now waiting to see what the cut-line for the PGA Tour
actually was.
After a few players stumbled coming into the 18th, the cut-line did come
back to -8 and Bryn missed his PGA Tour card by one simple shot over the
108 hole tournament. A feat that most golfers would be very proud of,
considering there were over 3000 professionals who started off the
process. However, Bryn being the perfectionist he is feels a bitter
sense of disappointment by missing this opportunity by only one shot.
Reflecting back on his experience, he should feel very proud of this
tremendous accomplishment that only a very few can say they have ever
achieved.
So
what does this all mean? Well, Bryn is now a fully-fledged member of the
Nationwide Tour. By this I mean he will be playing on the ‘next best’
tour in the world (not necessarily financially) in that he now has a
chance to reach the PGA Tour by placing top 25 in the 2007 season and
also play for substantially larger purses than most other tours in the
world.
Vancouver should be very proud of our own Bryn Parry with his
accomplishment. All of us here with the Vancouver Golf Tour and the
staff at Seymour Creek Golf Center feel very proud of our ‘graduate’ and
wish him all the very best for the upcoming 2007 Nationwide Golf Tour
season. We hope we see him win his battlefield promotion to the PGA Tour
and that we get the privilege to have him join our midst throughout the
year when he has some time off.
VERY WELL DONE BRYN!

“Parry makes positive move forward
toward
PGA Tour Card”
December
3, 2006
It’s been quite a ride watching Bryn take
care of his business these past couple of days. He’s really playing like
a PGA Tour player out here at the final stage of PGA Tour School. He is
totally in command of his game in every way. He’s hitting the ball like
a champion and walking the fairways like he belongs out on the PGA Tour.
Bryn birdied six holes today on his round of 68 which placed him in a
tie for 29th place going into the final round. Pretty impressive after
opening the first round with a score of 78.
A gallery of about 10 starting the day swelled to over 20 as the North
Shore resident out-played the 2001 U.S. Amateur Champion Ricky Barnes by
six shots. The only two blemishes on his card came from a three putt
from 40 feet on hole #2 and an unfortunate lie in the rough on 18 which
forced a lay-up and his second bogey on the day. Otherwise another
flawless round of golf from tee-to-green which bodes well for Bryn’s
final round tomorrow.
"Compared to the guys he has played with the past couple of rounds, Bryn
has made the game look so simple and way less stressful. He’s firing at
the flag with confidence and keeping his ball on the right side of the
hole at all times" voiced VGT Commissioner Fraser Mulholland.
Bryn tees off at 8:31 tomorrow on the 1st tee of the PGA West Stadium
Course which has played on average about 3 shots more challenging than
the Nicklaus Course. With stats being what they are, a solid round of
even par or better should keep Bryn within the top 30 and secure him a
card on the PGA Tour. Anything outside the top 30 will ascertain Bryn a
place to play on the Nationwide Tour for 2007. Bryn’s fans down here and
back home in Vancouver will be cheering him all the way to help him
fulfill this dream of playing on the biggest golf stage in the world –
The PGA Tour.

Fourth round charge puts Bryn
Parry
right in the hunt at PGA Tour School
December
2, 2006
With as smooth a round of 64 as anyone
could imagine, Bryn Parry of North Vancouver
has vaulted himself from 90th place into a tie for 42nd with two rounds
to play in final stage of PGA Tour School.
With an impressive 10 birdies on his
card, Parry absolutely cruised to the easiest round of 64 anyone could
witness. VGT’s
Commissioner
Mulholland witnessed this incredible round of golf and made the
following comment: ‘Bryn was in total control of his game today. His
round of 64 was the worst he could have been. I’ve never seen anyone
make it look so easy – total control of his ball striking off the tee
and irons shots into the greens’. ‘If it weren’t for a few missed 5
footers and a 7 iron that smashed the cup on the par 3- 8th hole for a
near ace, it could easily have been a 59 or 60’.
A small gallery of five built slowly to over a dozen by the end of the
day. Bryn fed off his gallery’s cheers by pouring in 5 birdies on his
last 8 holes of the day.
Parry will tee-off tomorrow on the PGA West Nicklaus Course for the
third straight day and complete his 6th and final round on Monday at the
PGA West Stadium Course.
Two other Canadians join Bryn in the top 40, including David Morland IV
who sits at -6 for the tournament and Brad Frisch who sits one shot
ahead of Parry at -5. Both Parry and Frisch have made incredible charges
since day one – Parry shooting an opening 78 and Frisch shooting 81.
This brings back shades of another familiar Canadian some 7 years ago –
in 1999 where Mike Weir opened with a 76 and went on to win the whole
q-school.
Parry tee’s off at 8:21 am and plays with past U.S. amateur Champion
Ricky Barnes. He should take a lot of confidence into the final two days
of the tournament the way he is striking the ball.

Vancouver Golf Tour Member
holding steady
at half-way point of 2006 PGA Tour School
December 1, 2006
North
Vancouver’s Bryn Parry fired a solid round of even par 72 today in this
the third round of a six round ‘marathon’ at the PGA Tour Qualifying
School in La Quinta, California.
After opening with an out-of-character score of 42 on his front-nine on
day one, the ‘Real’ Parry has re-surfaced and played the last 45 holes
of the PGA School at 2-under par. Vancouver Golf Tour Commissioner
Fraser Mulholland had a chance to talk with Bryn after his first few
rounds and found a very calm and collected voice at the end of the line.
‘Other than a couple of incidents during the first round that accounted
for a few bogeys and a triple bogey (mis-reading a yardage into one hole
and a gust of wind knocking a well struck 3-wood into the water), Bryn
has played some very steady golf’ stated Mulholland. ‘Especially in his
last two rounds on the tougher PGA West Stadium Course, Bryn has shown
more of the samples we all have seen in his play locally as well as in
the first two stages of the tour school..
After his round of 72 today at the PGA West Stadium Course Bryn sits in
a tie for 89th place out of 160 golfers. Some would say a long way back,
but others might say just the right place to keep pushing his way up on
the leaders who may be feeling a bit more of the pressure playing in the
final few groups. This has been the trend Bryn has followed in his first
two stages, so he should be feeling right at home.
Bryn will play the easier of the two courses on the rotation tomorrow
which saw a ton of great scores in round three today. The top 80 players
after round two played today at the Nicklaus course and the next 80
played on the Stadium Course. With the difference in difficulty being
2-3 shots between the two, the top 80 players made a strong surge that
opened up leads that were at one point very tight. Round four should see
this gap narrow with the bottom 80 players playing the easier of the two
courses on Saturday.
As it stands, Bryn sits 2 shots out of securing a full-time Nationwide
Tour card and 8 shots out of a full-time PGA Tour card. VGT will keep
everyone informed ‘Live from La Quinta’ as we follow Bryn’s journey
through the final three rounds of the Tour School. Keep checking the
website for our daily updates and pictures of Bryn in his ‘Quest for the
Card’. Live action can be seen on The Golf Channel as they will cover
the final three rounds starting Saturday, airing at 1:30 pm Pacific
Time.
GO BRYN!
Parry makes crucial move on
third day
at 2nd Stage PGA Tour School!
November 17, 2006
Seymour Creek Golf Professional Bryn
Parry vaulted himself right back into the thick of things with a very
impressive round of 65 today at PGA Tour School Second Stage in Arizona.
After 36 holes of play on the 7,500 yard Southern Dunes layout, Parry
stood in a tie for 31st with scores of 73,69. With his fine play on day
three which consisted of 9 birdies, Parry moved into a share of 13th
place going into round four where the top 20 plus ties move forward into
final stage of PGA Tour School. Bryn tees off at 9:50 am tomorrow and he
should be completed his round by 2:30pm. Anyone interested can follow
the action at

Parry shines brightly in First
Stage
of PGA Tour Qualifying School
October 28, 2006
The buzz was at large today in North
Vancouver as Seymour Creek Teaching Professional Bryn Parry successfully
passed through first stage of PGA Tour qualifying school after four very
impressive rounds of golf. Shooting scores of 71, 67, 72, 72, Parry
finished in a tie for 2nd place out of the 84 professionals in the
field. The top 27 players advanced into second stage, so with this
strong finish Parry play will no doubt take a bunch more confidence
going into second stage a couple of weeks down the road.
Parry’s two most impressive rounds of the tourney came with his fine
score of 67 in day two and his even par round of 72 on a final day that
saw the stroke average soar to 78.4 for the entire field. Severe wind on
day four made Parry’s round of 72 the third lowest round of the day.
Parry has no doubt utilized his fine play this year on the lower
mainland SRIXON TOUR to surge his confidence going into the qualifying
school. With 16 wins locally this year, you can see why! He will return
home to play in a two-man tournament down in Sequim, Washington before
heading back down to Beaumont, California to play the second stage of
the qualifying school on Nov.16th.
