The
Vancouver Golf Tour (VGT) is the culmination of a vision of
Vancouver based PGA professional Fraser Mulholland to develop
local BC golf talent and give them the environment to succeed to the
next level. The mission of VGT is to create the premier
developmental tour in Canada focused on providing a highly
competitive stage for promising juniors, amateurs and professional
golfers. The 5-year vision of the tour is to have five VGT members
competing on the PGA Tour.
British Columbia’s ‘Rising Stars’ need a professionally-run tour
environment that provides both the financial rewards for golf excellence
as well as the highest level of competition possible. With this
experience, local golfers will be given the opportunities they need to
develop their game to the highest level possible in preparation for the
PGA Tour. The VGT is working with all levels of the golf industry to
make this happen.
VGT will
provide funds for the development of junior golf by forming the VGT
Junior Golf Academy and Scholarship Endowment Program. Through this
initiative, juniors of all skill levels will be given the opportunity to
learn the game of golf at no cost, making the playing field level for
beginners that want to learn the game and for the elite who want to take
it to the PGA Tour. Scholarships will be developed to help young golfers
select the Golf University or College of their choice.
The VGT is
organized and supported by top PGA professionals in the industry. The
organizing committee brings a wealth of experience in both tournament
play and golf operations around the province.
In its
first year of operations in 2006, VGT hosted its Inaugural Pro-am
Championship and succeeded in selling out this premier event. The three
following goals of the tour were also accomplished: Setting aside
funding for the VGT Junior Golf Academy and Scholarship Endowment Fund,
receiving extensive media exposure and sending a VGT professional down
to the PGA Tour qualifying school. Looking at what was accomplished with
just one event, the future of the tour is very promising!
Helping
the future of BC Golf
By sponsoring VGT, you are assisting in the development of local junior
and amateur golfers, as funds raised from the tour will go directly
towards the development of VGT’s Junior Academy and Scholarship
Endowment Program. As well, your sponsorship dollars will help boost the
professional tournament purses in our province so that our young BC
professionals have a chance to earn a living locally while they pursue
their goal of reaching the PGA Tour.
Extensive Media Exposure
VGT is being heavily promoted locally at all Lower Mainland golf
courses, local and regional general media. For 2006 the Commissioner was
interviewed by golf industry media as well as local sports personalities
including Steve Darling and Eric Dwyer (Global TV), Jay Janower (CKNW,
Team 1040), Kent Gilchrist (Province Newspaper), Brad Zeimer (Vancouver
Sun), Ross Marrington (BCgolfguide.com) and Barry Sharpe (BCgolfnews.com).
For our 2006 Pro-am Championship, Vancouvertv.tv did a 5-minute
promotional video that highlights the major sponsors on both our website
and theirs. We expect even more coverage for 2007 since we are releasing
a full tour schedule compared to only one event in 2006.
There will
be significant pre-event, on-site and post-event media coverage
throughout the year including a post event newsletter for all four
‘Majors’, a VGT newsletter and a post-event website page for every
tournament.
Target
Audience
In 2007, we are striving to obtain a membership of approximately 500
golfers. This number includes approximately 80 professionals, 150
amateurs/corporate golfers and 70 juniors as ‘playing members’ and about
200 ‘Affiliate’ members who will subscribe to become members for the
non-competing privileges (green-fee discounts, travel rewards, etc.) and
receipt of the VGT newsletter.
