Lower Mainland players use Srixon Tour to push
their game to the next level!

With the
Lower Mainland Srixon Tour schedule wrapping up this Monday at
Swan-e-set Bay Resort, you would think that would be the end of
another season. For most players on the tour, that is the case, but
for two members in particular, this is not so.
The first of these is Shingo
Akizuki of Mayfair Lakes Golf Club. Winning Monday’s Tour
Championship with a score of 68, Akizuki seems to have found his
form as of late. Two weeks earlier, Shingo recently qualified to play on
the Canadian Tour for 2007 by finishing in the top 30 at the Fall
Qualifying School. When questioned about his recent successes, Akizuki
attributed them to the added number of events and competitors this year
on the Srixon Tour as well as his continued determination to reach the
tour. “There’s no question that the added competition this year helped
me feel more tournament tough and ultimately feel as prepared as
possible when heading back east for the Canadian Tour School”. The
Richmond golf professional plans to continue working on his game through
the off-season to get ready to play a full schedule on the 2007 Canadian
Tour and mix in as many locally run Vancouver Golf Tour events when he
is not out of town.
The second Srixon Tour player to
push their game to the next level is this year’s Order of Merit
Champion Bryn Parry of Seymour Creek Golf Center. This year-end
trophy went to a well deserved Parry who finished the year with an
impressive record of 8 wins out of 15 events.

Bryn’s phenomenal play this year
has prompted fellow tour member and local businessman Jay Park to
sponsor Parry on his quest to play the PGA Tour this fall. “It is
with great pleasure that I can support Bryn with his goal of reaching
the PGA Tour and I wish him all the success in the world”.

Parry heads down to Lantana,
Texas in three weeks for the first of three stages of PGA Tour
Qualifying School. In order to move forward to second stage, Parry
will need to place in the top 20 out of approximately 90 golfers and do
the same in second stage to reach the final stage. Once at final stage,
a top 30 position will gain entry into the PGA Tour and from 31 to 80
will ensure full status on the Nationwide Tour. Srixon Tour Commissioner
Fraser Mulholland feels that Parry’s game is as good as it gets on any
top tour in the world-including the PGA Tour. “Bryn has had an
incredible year on our BCPGA tournament schedule winning a total of 16
times out of 35 events he has played. But the most impressive stat is
how many times he has been in the top 5 – an amazing 32 out of 35
times”!! Mulholland feels that Parry has all the skill sets required to
make it to AND become a winner on the PGA Tour.
Parry will have a lot of support
from his fellow Srixon Tour players who have all witnessed this
incredible year. The Tour has benefited from Bryn’s fantastic play, as
this has driven other player’s to surge forward in order to keep pace –
Last week’s Canadian Assistant’s Championships at Predator Ridge is a
classic example where the top four players in the championship were
Lower Mainland Srixon Tour members! “This is a trend that needs to
happen more and more if we are going to send more of our B.C. players to
play on the PGA Tour” stated Mulholland.
With that said, Mulholland plans
to develop an even larger schedule of events for 2007 on the newly
created VANCOUVER GOLF TOUR, including the re-incarnation of the
VANCOUVER OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP in September at University Golf Club.
This tour will add BC’s touring pro’s as well as the best amateur and
junior golfers to the fields to promote this trend of growth. Srixon has
agreed to continue their sponsorship for 2007 and has upped their
commitment because of the growth of the tour and the added media
exposure this year. Mulholland is very grateful for the support Srixon
Golf has given the tour this year and is looking forward to another
surge in player development for 2007. Player’s looking to seek out more
